It has been much, much too long since I’ve written something. I’ve been meaning to check in with you all for some time now, but I just haven’t had the inspiration. But here I am, if only for the sake of making an appearance.
I’ve been doing quite a bit of work with Dramatically Incorrect Theater Group lately. Their annual fundraiser show ran a little over a week ago and it went fantastically. There was a full house, DI raised enough money to install a new and improved dance surface in their studio, and more importantly (at least to me), my grandmother made a ton of money by selling some of her signature baked goods for refreshments. She’s looking to open a bakery, so stay tuned for how you can get your hands on some of that!
Next up with them, I’m directing a production of Godspell! I’m trying to do something a little different with it, since it’s one of those shows that gets done to death, and also because I’m an artist and we’re not the simple sort. We’re just in the early stages, so you’ll hear more about that as time goes on. If you’re interested in helping me make art, let me know! I’ll have something for ya.
I also got a new real job. I am now one of the actors at the world famous Witch Dungeon Museum in Salem, MA. I’m so stoked to be a part of the legacy, and honestly it’s probably as close to “using my degree” as I can possibly get. One of these days, if you’re in the area, you should come visit me there! Just not right at 10am or at 5pm. Those are the first and last shows and therefore the ones that you probably won’t get the most out of. And don’t forget to tip your tourguides! (I actually never knew you were expected to do that until I became one, so I don’t expect you to know.)
There are a few upcoming dance projects as well, which in my opinion are much more fun to work on because I can work on them on my own time with very little dedicated rehearsal time in a place that isn’t my living room. Not to mention that most dance shows are one-time-only, which makes the already ethereal art of live performance even more ethereal and I love, love, love it. Rara Avis, the 2014 Shimmy Mob, and a very special Primal Fusion World Dance(TM) performance are coming up very soon and I couldn’t be more excited.
And aside from all that, I’m trying to fit in all my other daily stuff in between. I’ve been 5k training again (with Zombies, Run!), practicing guitar and trying to be a better “music mom,” and working on a few new costume projects. I’m feeling more productive than ever, and I sincerely can’t wait to share the fruit of this labor with you.
EDIT: I can’t believe I forgot to mention this part. I finally registered to attend NEATS (North East American Tribal Style) Dance Camp. It’s scheduled for the end of September. I’m nervous, excited, and flustered all at once. If you are interested in shimmying with me and haven’t registered yet, you should give them your money here.
